The overall sound quality of Cosmic Ears custom IEMs is generally balanced across all frequencies. Many guitarists look for a profile that emphasises clarity in the midrange (where most guitar tones lie) and a solid low-end for rhythm playing. A bright high-end can help with solo articulation, but a balance is important for a natural, full sound. Sound is subjective, and we have guitarists that use models from across our range, including our C3A, the C4A for its bright mids/highs, the C6R for its true sound, the C6A for its warmth, and the C8A for sheer power and detail and separation through the lows/mids/high mids/highs.

Will custom IEMs change my guitar tone?

Cosmic Ears custom IEMs reproduce sound far more accurately than traditional stage monitors or wedges, allowing you to hear your true guitar tone with greater clarity. The improved isolation of our custom IEMs, enhanced by our Solid Acoustic Mass production method (SAMs), also means you won't need to compete with stage volume, allowing for more accurate playing.

How do I balance isolation with stage awareness when using custom IEMs?

There are a number of ways you can work towards achieving this. Using ambient microphones in the venue to pick up environmental sounds and crowd noise which can be fed into your mix; and though not recommended (but we do see our customers doing this), by using only one side (NB – doing this will not protect the exposed ear from high stage and venue SPLs). And lastly, we do absorb sound through our muscles and bones, so whilst Cosmic Ears custom IEMs will offer up to -26dB isolation, you can still hear and feel what is going on around you – you will not be totally isolated, it just may take a few rehearsals and/or shows to get fully used to IEMs if you are new to wearing them.
