We are proud to serve a multitude of customers from across the music industry, artists and musicians, but also the folk that ensure the monitor mix is grade A. Monitor engineers put their trust in our UK manufactured custom IEMs, with our flagship C6A being the usual IEM of choice since our inception. But since the introduction of our new C8A, we are seeing a shift.
In this feature we catch up with Gerry Colclough, monitor engineer for New Order, Primal Scream, The Jesus and Mary Chain and The Divine Comedy...
Who are you currently working with? And who have you worked with in the past?
Just finished a tour in Japan and Australia with Primal Scream, and heading back to the same territory with New Order in February and March for more shows. Coming up, more shows with The Jesus and Mary Chain.
In the past... wow, too many other bands to mention!
What music and/or artists do you like to listen to at the moment?
I like to rest my ears between tours and shows, so i'll be stuck in a 70's easy listening bubble. But having recently watched the Kneecap movie, I love what they're doing with Irish language and rap.
What exciting new music or shows have you got coming up?
New Order on the steps of the Sydney Opera house should be a nice gig. Having played inside on several occasions this will be nice change
Which band or artist would you like to sing the soundtrack to your biopic?
Jackson Browne with The Load Out closing out the biopic.
What is the most important factor for you when choosing custom IEMs?
A solid fit and seal is very important to maintain an environment free from interruptions. Balanced audio quality is integral on maintaining a consistent mix of punchy lows, crisp highs and finely tuned mids.
What Cosmic Ears model are you currently using?
I've just moved to the C8A having been using the C6A for the last few years.
Working with a band like New Order with their Post Punk Electronic Sound requires deep low and clean highs when monitoring the various mixes onstage. The C8A have brought this audio experience up a notch from my C6A.
How would you describe the sound of your Cosmic’s in 3 words?
Balanced. Phat. Crisp!
Why do you trust Cosmic Ears?
I moved to Cosmic Ears several years ago on a recommendation from a colleague when they had just started. I went straight in at the top with the C6A, and haven't looked back since - pure outstanding audio quality. I've taken all my artists to them over the last few years.
Phil, Mike and the team have been outstanding in their service throughout this time. The product speaks for itself, and their backup customer service has been solid, and their advice invaluable.
Always affording the artists the best advice, from impression taking, to choosing the correct model.
