Cosmic Ears was founded on a simple idea – that performers don’t need to compromise between sound quality and physical comfort.

The brand's DNA was shaped by our founder, Philip Gartell, an avionics engineer who brought his deep expertise in signal processing and electronics, along with a distinct creative flair, to the heart of audio design. Every single IEM in the Cosmic Ears range has been meticulously engineered from the ground up – crossover by crossover – and continuously refined through our work with world-renowned artists and sound engineers, as well as our dedicated laboratory team. 

What started as a passion for handcrafting custom in-ear monitors for those who demanded more has grown and grown. Operating out of our state-of-the-art Manchester hub, we have scaled our laboratory into a world-class manufacturing facility capable of supporting global stadium tours, elite sports broadcasting, and international entertainment industries.

While we have grown into a globally recognised name, our priority remains the personal. Every set of in-ear monitors we design is still individually hand-finished with that meticulous attention to detail that defined our very first pair.

Our world-class monitors are built via a series of interconnected technologies:

• ModTec: Our proprietary balanced armature driver format. Extensive R&D allows us to package our individual drivers and crossovers into one single, solid module. Expect the same tried-and-tested Cosmic Ears sound, delivered seamlessly from a single source.
  
  
• PPA (Pro-Phase Audio): Delivers an industry-leading flat phase response, ensuring that all of our internal ModTec drivers work in perfect harmony.
  
  
• SAMS (Solid Acoustic Mass Shell): Our innovative shell design provides enhanced acoustic isolation, a secure physical fit, and the rugged durability that live-touring demands.
  
  
• SDM (Shock Dampening Membrane): Working in lockstep with SAMS, the SDM acts as an advanced layer of protection, protecting our high-spec ModTec drivers from the shock and impact of life on the road.
  
  
• TunR: All our audio configurations are designed using our custom-built development chamber, which allows the acoustic output to be tuned in unison with the natural resonance of the human ear canal.

To ensure a flawless, bespoke fit every time, we partner with a trusted national and international network of audiologists who secure the exact contours of your ear.

From there, our Manchester engineering team takes over using an advanced, tech-forward workflow:

• 3D Digital Scanning: Physical ear impressions are converted into highly accurate digital blueprints.
  
  
• Precision 3D Modelling: Our designers configure the internal acoustic chambers using TunR data to optimise airflow and precise driver placement.
  
  
• High-Resolution 3D Printing: The SAMS outer shells are printed with micrometre-level accuracy to ensure an impeccable, comfortable acoustic seal.
  
  
• Expert Hand-Assembly: Specialist technicians meticulously install our integrated ModTec modules and SDM protection layers, wiring and tuning them to absolute perfection.
