It's a great question, but a lot of the answers will depend on what you are used to, what you are actually performing (i.e., are you a DJ that solely plays with turntables/CDJs and a mixer, or are you a DJ that has a hybrid setup and plays some live instruments). Traditionally, DJs have used powerful headphones (often with emphasis on the low end, i.e., punchy bass) to easily allow one or both sides to slide on and off the ear quickly and efficiently, depending on which ear you use to monitor with, and to hear the kick drum in a loud booth environment (where dB can often run in excess of 100dB - very loud!). If you've been used to using headphones, then switching to custom IEMs will feel very different, and may take some getting used to. Unlike headphones, because Cosmic Ears custom IEMs are made specifically for your ear, putting them in and taking them out, especially when you first get them, can be challenging. This does get easier over time, as you find a technique that works best for you (just never yank the cable!). DJs will often have one ear covered and the other left exposed for monitoring. That is where the danger comes from with hearing damage in mind (you might also want to look at our Custom Hearing Protection range). With both IEMs in your ears, you know you are protecting your hearing with up to -26dB of isolation, but still able to hear the mix - and most importantly, using our C6A or C8A models which are best for DJs and Electronic music, punchy, accurate low end, and crystal clear accuracy through the mids and highs offering tight snares and crisp high hats, reproduced by our balanced armature mini speaker technology inside your IEMs. If you have a split cue or mix cue function on the mixer, you can blend both tracks in your IEMs rather than using the monitors (but you would still leave them on at a sensible volume to counteract any room delays).
