Audiology, Ear Health & Microsuction Wax Removal

What is Audiology and why is it important to Cosmic Ears?

In its simplest form, 'Audiology' is effectively the study of hearing and ears. Audiologists are healthcare professionals who identify, assess and manage disorders of hearing, balance and other neural systems. For Cosmic Ears, audiology plays a massive role in ensuring our customers have the best fitting monitors in the industry, as well as healthy ears and crisp, clear hearing in day-to-day scenarios.

If you are an Audiologist, that has experience taking impressions for musicians, and would like to work closely with us, then please contact our Client Relationship Team by emailing info@cosmicears.com for help and guidance.

Ear Health

Ear health is important for everyone of all ages. It helps us to communicate effectively, listen to music and go about our daily lives with ease.

Being aware of our ear health can help contribute to keeping them healthy for as long as we can. Below is a list of contributing factors that could affect our hearing and the overall health of our ears:

  • listening to loud music for a prolong period of time
  • being exposed to loud noises
  • compacted wax build up
  • not having regular ear health check
  • inserting small objects into the ears etc. cotton buds

We are very lucky at Cosmic Ears to be working closely with many talented Audiologists around the country who help us and our customers on a daily basis. However, we understand that not everyone can match their schedules to a clinic close to them, which is why we introduced our very own 'Audiology Department'. We are trained by industry specialists to offer the services you need, right on our doorstep! This includes ear health checks, ear impressions for both Custom In-Ear Monitors and Custom Hearing Protection, and also offer microsuction wax removal (which is essential for a safe ear impression for customers who have significant wax build-up).

Ear Health Check / Digital Otoscopy

Otoscopy is the process of looking in the ear using an otoscope device to assess the health of your ear. At Cosmic Ears, we use a device by Tympa Health, which allows us to take videos and images of the inside of your ear. This allows us to send the images, anonymously to our team of audiologists at Tympa, if we have any concerns.

Hearing Screening

As part of our training with Typma Health, we are able to offer 4 band hearing screening tests. This is not the extensive test that you would find at an Audiologist clinic, but this test is completely user-friendly and will detect any anomalies within your hearing. If we find any areas of concern, we can refer you to a specialist.

Microsuction Wax Removal

Microsuction is a process designed to remove wax. Essentially, it is a tiny hoover designed to safely 'suck-up' excessive wax from your ears. The procedure is safe, if done correctly, and can help if wax is causing temporary hearing loss. Microsuction is required if you have extensive wax build-up, that might be causing a 'full' or blocked feeling. From events that we have visited in the past 3 years, we have found that as many as 1 in 4 people are unaware they have significant wax build-up (that requires removal).

Before you get booked in…

If you know you have excessive wax build-up, you can come to our Cosmic HQ, where our highly trained staff can remove the wax safely for you. you will be required to take a course of 'softening' before an attempted removal can happen. We recommend using an olive oil spray, called 'Earol'. This is designed to soften the wax, to make the removal easier and more comfortable. We would recommend using this for at least 7 days before coming to see us, morning and night.
