- When driven hard (to hear anything over crowd noise) they distort
- Often D-Cup pushed hard against the ear to hear anything – damaging your hearing!
- Offers very low to ZERO hearing protection
IEM Cons
- Initial investment
- Getting ear impressions (we can help with our network of trusted audiologists across the UK)
- Might need to purchase an adaptor for your radio (but these are readily available)
IEM Pros
- Exceptional clarity in sound (which means lower pack volume levels)
- Superior headroom for Comms (again, no need to dial up pack volumes)
- Very comfortable, even when wearing for extended periods
- Sound tubes into your ear canal that delivers sound closer to the eardrum (so again, this means you don’t need to have source comms loud, nor pushed against the ear as you would with a D-Cup)
- Isolation of between -26 to -34 offers superior protection against high SPLs, investing in your long-term hearing health

“My background is live event security/crowd management, and mostly my role of Backstage Manager entails being in the front of stage area. I’ve been using my custom IEM’s from Cosmic almost daily now, for a significant period of time and couldn’t recommend the products more - they’re absolutely fantastic.
I’ve tried many other products in the past, for example, acoustic tube earpieces, ‘D ring’ earpieces and pit can headsets, and none come close to the audio quality provided by my custom IEMs. Ordinarily, with other products, I’d have to have the volume on maximum and would still struggle to decode messages I was receiving.
